Perry is she is Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first television performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed the role. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let performing before turning age 18. Perry confessed that she wasn't comfortable acting in high school, but started performing as a means to connect with new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness led Perry her back home California which was where theatre jobs were available. In 2013, she appeared in The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. She performed with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal with her father. The same year, she played a young character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother as a young version. The character was assigned by audition regardless of the fact that she was a cousin to the character.
